Proverbs 31, Here We Come!

Tuesday, July 1, we start our study of Proverbs 31! In five to ten minutes we will learn about the excellent wife, while we also learn how to study the Bible in an active, flexible, rewarding way. Why Proverbs 31? Here we are, many of us struggling to make time for even 5 minutes of Bible study, and we’re going to spend a month taking a close-up look at the superwoman of […]

Bought with the Precious Blood of Christ

This past Sunday we sang “In Christ Alone” as we took communion. It was beautiful. We filed up to the front, taking first the bread, then the wine, as we sang. “Till on that cross as Jesus died, the wrath of God was satisfied; for every sin on Him was laid, here in the death of Christ I live.” We went back to our seats and waited for the others […]

Remembering . . .

Wow. You know how you (almost) forget how much it hurts to have a baby, once you have the baby? It’s kind of like that with parenting, too. To a Thousand Generations

In the past seven days I have visited the grave sites of at least sixteen of my ancestors, in six different cemeteries, and spanning seven generations. After attending the Teach Them Diligently conference in Washington, D.C., my son and I were able to travel to the little village of Singers Glen, Virginia, where at least five generations of my family lived. We sat in the cemetery that overlooks the quiet […]

Teaching Tools for Good Friday

Tomorrow is Good Friday, the day we remember Christ’s death on the cross. Tomorrow is another opportunity to remind our children again of the gospel. Here are a few ideas for the day: Spend part of the day reading aloud the account of Jesus’s betrayal, trial, scourging, and crucifixion. Perhaps you could read different portions at breakfast, lunch, nap times, dinner, and bedtime. Start at Matthew 26, Mark 14, Luke […]

A Scavenger Hunt for Palm Sunday

I get to spend today and the next three days with all my family — my husband, our children, and our grandchildren — at the beach! This means we will have 9 children just barely-five-years-old and under all in one place for 76 hours! So — I am making preparations! I’m going armed with Play-doh, tempera paints, cookie dough, and empty plastic Easter eggs to stuff with finger food for an […]
