{"id":3385,"date":"2012-06-28T01:00:29","date_gmt":"2012-06-28T08:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.doorposts.com\/blog\/?p=3385"},"modified":"2012-06-28T10:34:41","modified_gmt":"2012-06-28T17:34:41","slug":"grumbling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.doorposts.com\/blog\/2012\/06\/28\/grumbling\/","title":{"rendered":"Grumbling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>\u201cDo all things without murmurings and disputings\u201d <\/em>(Philippians 2:14).<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3387\" title=\"Mad Kid\" src=\"http:\/\/www.doorposts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/shutterstock_479486-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.doorposts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/shutterstock_479486-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/www.doorposts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/shutterstock_479486.jpg 333w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/>Children grumble. <\/strong>So did the Israelites.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Children <\/strong>(and parents)<strong> who grumble are grumbling against the Lord.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sometimes, like the Israelites as they faced the Red Sea with the Egyptians at their backs,<strong> our children grumble because they are afraid. <\/strong>We can challenge them with our questions and instruction:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cWhat are you afraid of?\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cIs God strong enough to take care of that?\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cWhat has God done for you in the past?\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cLet\u2019s pray and ask God to help us trust Him.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sometimes they grumble because they\u2019re impatient, like the Israelites who weren\u2019t getting water fast enough to relieve their thirst. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cWhat do you need that God is not able to provide for you?\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cDoes God love you? Will He take care of you?\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cDo we love you? Will we help take care of you? Did we take care of you yesterday and the day before that?\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cDoes God want you to learn to wait?\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cCan you \u2018close your lips\u2019 and wait quietly while we get what you need?\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cLet\u2019s pray for God to help you be patient.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sometimes our children grumble because they just don\u2019t like what we have given them. <\/strong>Like the Israelites who were tired of manna, our children often ungratefully complain about the food put before them, or which park we took them to, or which story we are reading to them. They want something else instead of what they have been given.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cWho has given this to you?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em> \u201cAre you being thankful if you complain?\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cAre you going to be thankful for this, or would you rather not have anything?\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cCan you say thank you?\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cLet\u2019s stop and thank God for this, too.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sometimes they grumble because they don\u2019t trust God to lead through us,<\/strong> like the Israelites when they stood at the threshold of the Promised Land and panicked at the report of those who had returned from spying out the land. They were ready to choose new leaders and go back to Egypt!<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cWho made us your daddy and mommy?\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cWho is in charge of us? <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>&#8220;Who are we supposed to obey?\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cWho are you supposed to obey?\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cWhat do Daddy and Mommy have to do if you choose not to obey us?\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cLet\u2019s pray that Daddy and Mommy will obey God, and that you will obey us.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>When our children grumble, they are really grumbling against God. <\/strong>Moses recognized this when the Israelites continually complained to him. We must remember the same thing when our children grumble and complain.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c\u2026The Lord hears your grumblings which you grumble against Him. And what are we?
