Well, we’ve just finished a month of studying Psalm 37 and it’s pretty well etched in my brain. We stopped at one of our favorite springtime sights on the way home on Easter Day — a long lane lined with big, billowy flowering cherry trees. (I thank God every year for the person who long ago planted that line of trees, and I often wonder if he is still alive to enjoy the fruit of his work.)<\/p>\n

We had <\/em>to stop, even though we had a house full of company meeting us at home, because the trees won’t be nearly as beautiful by next Sunday. Those trees, as glorious as they are, made me think of our psalm, and of the wicked man who prospers and spreads himself “like a green laurel tree<\/em>” (Psalm 37:35) He won’t last. He’s just smoke. “God sees that his day is coming<\/em>” (Psalm 37:13), just like I know the day is coming when those luscious blossoms will fade and blow away.<\/p>\n

The trees fare better than the wicked man, though. Only one or two have died in the eighteen years that we’ve been enjoying them. “In just a little while the wicked will be no more. Though [we] look carefully at his place, he will not be there”<\/em> (Psalm 37:10). The wicked will not win<\/em>; God will. <\/em>There is no need to fear the wicked or fret over him. But there is good reason to pray <\/em>for him.<\/strong><\/p>\n
