Did She Know?

“Mary, did you know that your baby boy will one day walk on water?

“Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?
Did you know
That your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you’ve delivered
Will soon deliver you.”

“Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.”

Mary must have deeply loved this special Son that God had brought into being in her body. She must have marveled at His birth, wondered at His childhood, thrilled at His miracles, grieved in His sufferings. Did she know what to expect after she gave birth to her Son?

We don’t know all that the future holds for our children. We must prepare them, and then let them go, knowing that God has put them here for a purpose — a purpose higher than our own comfort, greater than our own understanding. He has only lent them to us. They’re His, and their ultimate purpose is, like Jesus, to do their heavenly Father’s will.
