Time for a Giveaway!

I’m already looking forward to our next study in November! I’m praying for all you ladies who are still working your  way through Proverbs31. I’m so glad you’re not quitting just because we’re not posting any new lessons. If you get done, and you haven’t done some of our earlier studies, check the archives. There are five other studies just waiting to be done! 🙂 I’m also continuing to pray […]

Thirty (One) Days in Proverbs 31 for Busy, Busy Mamas, Day 31: A Mighty Woman of Valor

Remember that list of military images we’ve been keeping as we’ve studied the verses of Proverbs 31? Today we are going to look at that list one more time, while we consider the closing verse of the chapter. Assignment: Pray for the Holy Spirit’s gracious work in your heart as we draw our study of this chapter to a close. Pray that knowledge will become wisdom, and that what you have learned […]

Thirty Days in Proverbs 31 for Busy, Busy Mamas, Day 16: Her Candle

We’ve looked at the valiant wife rising up early to feed her household and assign responsibilities for the day. We can probably all agree that getting up before the rest of the family certainly does bear good fruit. But now verse 18 says her candle doesn’t go out at night either! No wonder this kind of wife is hard to find! As we take a closer look at this verse, […]

Thirty Days in Proverbs 31 for Busy, Busy Mamas, Day 1: The Root

The virtuous wife of Proverbs 31 is one inspiring lady! Look at all she accomplished — spinning, weaving, sewing, real estate, farming, shopping, ministering to the poor, managing her household. But she can also be a bit discouraging. How in the world did she ever manage to do all those things? I can remember days when it was a challenge to even get out of my bathrobe before my husband came […]

Proverbs 31, Here We Come!

Tuesday, July 1, we start our study of Proverbs 31! In five to ten minutes we will learn about the excellent wife, while we also learn how to study the Bible in an active, flexible, rewarding way. Why Proverbs 31? Here we are, many of us struggling to make time for even 5 minutes of Bible study, and we’re going to spend a month taking a close-up look at the superwoman of […]

Bought with the Precious Blood of Christ

This past Sunday we sang “In Christ Alone” as we took communion. It was beautiful. We filed up to the front, taking first the bread, then the wine, as we sang. “Till on that cross as Jesus died, the wrath of God was satisfied; for every sin on Him was laid, here in the death of Christ I live.” We went back to our seats and waited for the others […]

Little Weeds

I’ve been catching up on weeding in the garden the last couple evenings. The garden’s a nice place to be, even if I am bent over picking little weeds out from between even littler seedlings. The hum of the traffic on the highway provides a backdrop for the birds singing, the neighbor’s tractor mowing, and our dog begging to get out of his kennel so he can trample over all […]

Blessed in His Body

Today the June issue of Portland Bride and Groom came out. Right there in the middle of that slick, picture-laden magazine were photos of our daughter’s wedding! Peter and Susannah kissing in front of the taco booth, Susannah’s rainbow shoes, the donut cake, the game booths, Peter swinging at the pinata. And at the end of the article, a short little list of vendors appears — a short and very inaccurate list. It […]

Remembering . . .

Wow. You know how you (almost) forget how much it hurts to have a baby, once you have the baby? It’s kind of like that with parenting, too. Intellectually I know how much work it is to care for a house full of little ones. I did it, by God’s grace, and it was a ton of work. But I don’t really remember until a day like today, when I left the house at 6:30 a.m. to help out my […]

To a Thousand Generations

In the past seven days I have visited the grave sites of at least sixteen of my ancestors, in six different cemeteries, and spanning seven generations. After attending the Teach Them Diligently conference in Washington, D.C., my son and I were able to travel to the little village of Singers Glen, Virginia, where at least five generations of my family lived. We sat in the cemetery that overlooks the quiet […]
